Michigan appliance pickup and recycling options
Use local acceptance information to choose between reuse, recycling drop-off, and arranged collection in Michigan.
Start with Michigan’s recycling resources
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy provides recycling information and links to collection resources. Look for a provider that accepts your exact appliance, then contact it before transporting the unit. A recycling listing does not necessarily include home pickup.
Ask your community about collection
Check your city or township and your waste collector for bulky-item and appliance arrangements. State the appliance type and whether it contains refrigerant. Ask about residency requirements, charges, appointments, and preparation. Do not assume that a household hazardous waste event will accept a large appliance.
Working versus broken appliances
A reuse organization may consider a clean, working appliance if it meets that organization’s requirements. A nonworking unit may need a recycler or disposal provider. When replacing an appliance, confirm retailer haul-away during the purchase process so that removal and delivery can be coordinated.

Requesting pickup through APN
You can submit an appliance pickup request at no charge. An independent partner may contact you if they can accept the appliance and location. A request is not a booking, and this state guide does not confirm statewide partner coverage. Agree on timing, access, preparation, and any charges before accepting an offer.
Before arranging removal
- Describe the appliance, whether it works, and any stairs or difficult access.
- Ask whether collection includes carrying the appliance out or requires a prepared collection point.
- For refrigerators, freezers, or air conditioners, confirm that the provider handles refrigerants appropriately. Do not open or cut cooling lines.
- Wait for a confirmed appointment and preparation instructions. Use qualified help for gas, plumbing, or hardwired electrical disconnection.
- Check current fees and acceptance directly with the provider. A public directory is not an endorsement of an APN partner.
