Start with your county and municipality when deciding how to remove an old appliance in Pennsylvania.
Find the right county contact
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection maintains a county recycling coordinator directory. Use it to find the contact for your county and ask about local collection programs, appliance drop-off facilities, and special events. A county contact can help identify options; the directory itself does not schedule a pickup.
Match the option to the appliance
For a working washer, dryer, or refrigerator, ask a reuse organization about condition and pickup requirements before donating. For a broken unit, check a recycler or your municipality. If you are buying a replacement, ask the retailer about haul-away before selecting the delivery date. These are separate services with their own terms.

Requesting pickup through APN
You can submit an appliance pickup request at no charge. An independent partner may contact you if they can accept the appliance and location. A request is not a booking, and this state guide does not confirm statewide partner coverage. Agree on timing, access, preparation, and any charges before accepting an offer.
Before arranging removal
- Describe the appliance, whether it works, and any stairs or difficult access.
- Ask whether collection includes carrying the appliance out or requires a prepared collection point.
- For refrigerators, freezers, or air conditioners, confirm that the provider handles refrigerants appropriately. Do not open or cut cooling lines.
- Wait for a confirmed appointment and preparation instructions. Use qualified help for gas, plumbing, or hardwired electrical disconnection.
- Check current fees and acceptance directly with the provider. A public directory is not an endorsement of an APN partner.
