A countertop microwave can have different disposal options from a large appliance. An over-the-range unit also needs safe uninstallation before a collector can carry it away.

What to include in your request
- Countertop, over-the-range, or built-in model, with approximate size.
- Whether it works and whether it is still mounted or installed.
- Whether it is the only item or part of a larger appliance pickup request.
Check small-appliance acceptance before arranging transport
Ask your local waste or recycling program whether it accepts microwaves, where they should be taken, and whether a fee applies. A program for large metal appliances or electronics may have different rules for microwaves. Confirm the specific item rather than relying on a general recycling label.
For mounted or built-in models, arrange suitable help to uninstall the appliance before collection. Keep the enclosure intact; a pickup request does not require dismantling a microwave. For a working unit, ask a reuse organization about its model, age, and condition requirements.

If no pickup partner is available
Check your municipal waste program, the retailer delivering a replacement, or a local recycler. For a working appliance, contact a local Habitat ReStore about donation acceptance and collection. Confirm the item, appointment, and fees with the provider before making a trip.
Common questions
Can I get a microwave picked up by itself?
You can ask, but a partner may decline a single small appliance if the trip is not viable. Include other appliances only if you actually need them collected.
Does a microwave go in my curbside recycling bin?
Check your local program’s rules. Do not assume a microwave belongs in the household recycling bin; ask about a designated appliance or electronics drop-off.
Does APN uninstall an over-the-range microwave?
APN does not promise uninstallation. Tell the partner it is mounted and arrange safe removal before an appointment is confirmed.
