Why You Shouldn't Throw a Microwave in the Trash
Microwaves are classified as e-waste in most US states because they contain electronic components, circuit boards, and in some cases small amounts of hazardous materials. Many states explicitly prohibit microwaves from landfill disposal.
A microwave also contains a high-voltage capacitor that can hold a charge even when unplugged — posing a safety risk if improperly handled. Certified e-waste recyclers discharge capacitors safely before processing.
The steel outer casing, copper wiring, and aluminum components in a microwave are all recyclable. Commercial microwaves in particular contain substantial material that makes recycling economically viable.
How Microwave Pickup Works
Submit a Request
Book a date and time that works for you. Microwaves are often picked up as part of a kitchen or multi-appliance cleanout.
We Remove & Carry Out
For OTR units, we unmount the microwave from above the stove. Countertop units are simply carried out. No mess, no damage.
Certified E-Waste Recycling
Your microwave is processed at a certified e-waste recycler where capacitors are safely discharged and materials are separated for recovery.
Microwave Pickup — Frequently Asked Questions
Can I throw a microwave in the regular trash?
In most areas, no. Microwaves are e-waste and are prohibited from regular landfill disposal in many states. They should be recycled through a certified program — which is what we do.
Is microwave pickup free?
Yes. Recyclable materials and e-waste processing value offset our costs. We typically pick up microwaves as a standalone or alongside other appliances.
Do you remove over-the-range microwaves?
Yes. We remove OTR microwave/hood combos mounted above the stove. Let us know in your request that it's an OTR unit.
Can you pick up multiple microwaves?
Yes. We can pick up multiple units in one visit — common for office cleanouts or commercial kitchens.
Does the microwave need to work?
No. Broken, sparking, or dead microwaves are fine. We take them regardless of condition.
